Free ‘Cupping-Style’ Tasting Event

On Saturday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m., three new Counter Culture coffees will make their in-bakery debut during a free “cupping style” coffee tasting conducted by the experts at Counter Culture Coffee. Guests sample three very contrasting coffees and engage in a discussion about their various qualities and what sets them apart from one another. At the end of the cupping, Mae’s baristas will Chemex-brew the favorite two coffees for guests to enjoy. Chemex brewers utilize a handmade infusion method, which results in a slower brew and a richer cup of coffee. Guests also have an opportunity to win a coffee giveaway sponsored by Counter Culture. During the coffee tasting, guests will have the rare opportunity to sample Cascara, Mae’s new “Coffee Tea.” Made from the husks of the dried cherries of the coffee plant, Cascara taste more like an herbal tea, offering a pleasantly surprising sweet, cherry flavor.

Mae’s Bakery is also announcing the appointment of its new coffee manager, Xanna Kidd. “Our coffee program has been a strong connection point with our customers, and with Xanna as our new coffee manager, I am confident that the program will continue to grow,” says Beth Castro, owner of Mae’s Bakery.

Mae’s “pour-over” by-the-cup coffees, courtesy of Counter Culture, change seasonally, with each offering imported at its peak. The three coffees debuting during the anniversary are:
