Nearby: Atlanta Firefighters Save Elderly Woman from Morningside Blaze

The woman was trapped inside a burning home on Tuesday afternoon.

An 86-year-old woman is at Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition but alive on Wednesday after Atlanta fire crews rescued her from a house fire in Morningside on Tuesday.

Patch reported that the home on Windermere Drive caught fire at approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, while two women and two dogs were inside. WSB-TV reports that one of the women was able to escape the blaze, but the 86-year-old was trapped inside the burning house.

Atlanta Fire Rescue crews entered the home, feeling their way through the conflagration because smoke had blinded them. According to WSB,Β Firefighter Matt LeFever was the one who found the woman and brought her to safety. She suffered smoke inhalation and burns to her arms, but survived the fire. The two dogs did not.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and now investigators are trying to determine what caused it in the first place.
