Chastain Park traffic to be heavy

The opens its baseball and softball season Saturday, so traffic will be heavy.

The opending day will begin with a parade at 11 a.m., led by the Christopher League and Homer, the Atlanta Braves mascot. "Softball teams and baseball teams ages 4-7 will follow wearing colorful beads, waving flags and smiling for their parents’ cameras," the NYO web site said.

The Whitefield marching band, cheerleaders and mascots from numerous schools will also be marching.

Softball and baseball players of Small Ball, Shetland Blue, Shetland Red and Rookie teams should be dropped off to volunteers at the Garr field entrance beside the gym at 10:15 a.m., the web site said.

Parents and friends should park at , from whereΒ  continuous shuttles will run to NYO from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parking lots will be closed and the street parking will fill up very early Saturday morning.Β

The Chastain Park Conservancy issued a traffic alert, advising drivers to use caution when driving through the park. Those planning to walk or run the PATH trail are urged to use the Red Parking Lot, located just north of the Horse Park on Powers Ferry Road.

The conservancy will have a tent in the park, offering news about park improvement projects.

Buckhead Baseball at Frankie Allen Park opens its 60th year Saturday, with the parade at 9:15 a.m. and opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m.
