One Dozen Buckhead Music Students Selected for All-State Ensembles

The youngsters will attend the All-State Band and Orchestra workshop hosted in Athens in late February.

Twelve students from The Westminster Schools have been selected for the Georgia Music Educators Association’s 2015 All-State Band and Orchestra honor ensembles. Students prepared for this opportunity throughout the fall and successfully advanced through two rounds of rigorous auditions to be selected.

The student musicians will participate in the All-State Band and Orchestra workshop Feb. 26-28, 2015, at The Classic Center in Athens, Ga. All honor ensembles will rehearse challenging repertoire throughout the week and the workshop will culminate with performances by each ensemble.

Five students from the Westminster band program were chosen for the 2015 All-State Band: junior Laura Street (flute), senior Diana Ge (clarinet), junior Faith Cho (clarinet), freshman Adam Liang (clarinet) and sophomore Cyrus Faruque (tenor saxophone). Westminster freshman Hope Cho (clarinet) was also recognized as principal alternate. Each student has been assigned to one of four honor ensembles, led by notable guest conductors Greg Bimm, Alfred Watkins, Col. Michael Colburn and Kevin Sedatole.

Seven students were selected for the 2015 All-State Orchestra: sophomore Florida Huff (violin), freshman Phoebe Liu (violin), sophomore Christine Liu (violin), freshman Ashley Ahn (viola), sophomore Andres Malave (viola), junior Ariana Mao (viola) and junior Rebecca Shin (viola). Each student musician will rehearse and perform with one of four honor orchestras, led by notable guest conductors Marilyn Seelman, Soo Han, Kirt Mosier and James Mick.
