The Pace Academy Community Remembers 9/11
One of Pace Academy's teachers was teaching at a school near the World Trade Center during the attack and shared her memories with students.

On Thursday, Sept. 11, Pace Academy students, faculty and staff came together to honor those lost during the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and to celebrate the American spirit. Students in all grades donned red, white and blue to symbolize unity and show patriotism.
In the Middle School, Director of Diversity Rick Holifield recounted the events of Sept. 11 and read former President George W. Bush’s address to the nation on the eve of that fateful day.
Seventh-grade teacher Lisa Dubovy, who in 2001 taught at a school just two miles from the Twin Towers, shared with students her memories of Sept. 11 and its aftermath. “While I remember this day with great sadness, I will always remember how my local community and the entire country came together as one,” she said.

In the Upper School, members of the Pace Academy Board of Diversity (PABD) led a special assembly for their classmates. In addition, they coordinated a reading of the names of the nearly 3,000 individuals who perished on Sept. 11. Throughout the day, students, teachers and entire classes stopped by a table in the Pace Gardens to read the names and honor the fallen.
PABD members also encouraged the Pace community to write words of inspiration and thoughts about the day in chalk in a designated portion of the Gardens. By the end of the day, moving drawings and phrases covered the ground.
