Students in the Upper School will perform the award-winning musical next month.

Staff Report
Pace Academy, recognized by Atlanta Magazine as one of the city’s Best Schools for the Arts, will present the musical Into the Woods Nov. 13-16 in the school’s Fine Arts Center.
The Upper School production brings together characters from the Grimm Brothers’ most memorable fairy tales, and as Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood, and the Baker and his wife go into the woods, the richly imaginative, magical musical begins.

Into the Woods features a story by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It premiered on Broadway in 1987 and attracted big-name talents with Bernadette Peters as the Witch and Joanna Gleason as the Baker’s wife. The show won two Tony Awards in 1988 for best score and book – a remarkable feat in a year dominated by Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Phantom of the Opera.
The main story involves the Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to visit the king’s festival; Jack, who wishes that his cow, Milky White, would give milk; and Little Red Riding Hood, who wishes that her granny would get well.

No Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale would be complete without a witch, a wolf or a giant, and Into the Woods features all three, with additional cameos from Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. There’s something for everyone, and no one can resist the allure of those familiar words uttered first by the narrator: “Once upon a time…”
Longtime Pace Academy director George Mengert directs the all-star cast, led by seniors Cooper Peery as the Mysterious Man, Rebecca Husk as the Witch, Caitlin Cook as Cinderella, Cooper Drose as the Baker, Annie Butler as Little Red Riding Hood, Sam Nail as the Wolf and Peter Hurley as Rapunzel’s Prince.
Performances take place Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., Nov. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Purchase tickets online viahttp://www.paceacademy.org/Page/Arts/Performing-Arts or prior to each show at the box office.
