Pace Academy welcomed world-renowned photojournalist Alison Wright on Thursday for a special lecture and book signing. The evening was part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography's 2013 Festival; a coordinated cultural experience celebrating photography. Ms. Wright is an award-winning documentary photographer whose work graces the cover of the most recent issue of National Geographic. She has traveled around the world “photographing endangered cultures and people while documenting issues concerning the human condition.”
Her work with child labor in Asia garnered her the Dorothea Lange Award in Documentary Photography. Her travels have resulted in a deep empathy for the world's marginalized and a profound respect for the indomitable human spirit. As she said on Thursday night, “We're really the same the world over… we just want to love and be loved.” The tone of her portraits is refreshingly positive. Even the most humble individual is elevated in her work. “I feel like I am always looking at the nobility of people and how I can bring that out,” she said.
Wright's photographs will be on display in the Fine Arts Center of Pace Academy throughout the month of October. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Learn more about Alison Wright at: www.alisonwright.com.
