📰 Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:

  1. The police arrested a 33-year-old man who reportedly tried to steal around $22,000 worth of products from Saks Fifth Avenue at the Phipps Plaza on Peachtree Road. Officers caught up with him as he was “looking through merchandise in a shoe stockroom at Saks.” The suspect tripped a silent alarm around 1 a.m. Mall security then saw him on surveillance “walking around the store and placing items into a suitcase.” Law enforcement brought the suspect in, and he “is facing charges of burglary, theft by taking, and possession of tools for the commission of a felony.” (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution/paywall)
  2. On Thursday, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) released footage of an arrest that occurred on December 8. At that time, officers responded to the parking lot at 3120 Maple Drive Northwest, where suspects were breaking into a vehicle. With the help of Connect Atlanta, officers accessed surveillance footage that let them follow the suspect vehicle “traveling along Bolton Road.” After the suspect crashed the car in the English Park area and four occupants attempted to run away, officers apprehended them. “During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the vehicle occupied by the suspects was stolen earlier in the night from 1000 Northside Drive Northwest.” (City of Atlanta Police Department)
  3. Beginning February 17, the MARTA Red Line will be “suspending Red Line service south of Medical Center station.” The ongoing track replacement project is finally coming to the “double crossover on the Red Line tracks north of Buckhead station.” The anticipated end date of the construction is February 22. MARTA will offer FREE Mobility paratransit service between these stations, “$10 vouchers for Uber and Lyft rides to and from affected stations” via the Connect program, and bus shuttles serving Lenox, Buckhead and Medical Center stations. (Liveable Buckhead)
  4. Brush Sushi will take over the vacant American Cut space at Buckhead Village. With an anticipated opening date of summer, the eatery is said to present with an “upscale and modern design befitting the luxury dining and retail district in Buckhead, complete with large wooden panels with intricate carvings of hinoki (a Japanese cypress tree) and a private room seating 17 people offering omakase tastings from Liang.” (Eater Atlanta)
