"Peter Pan" Flies onto the Pace Stage Nov. 14-17

Pace Academy will kick off the Upper School Theatre’s 2013-14 season with a high-flying production of Peter Pan Nov. 14-17 in the school’s Fine Arts Center.

The beloved musical about the boy who won’t grow up is an adaptation of J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play, Peter Pan. The original Tony Award-winning Broadway production debuted in 1954 starring Mary Martin as Peter. It features well-known musical numbers such as I’ve Gotta Crow, I Won’t Grow Up and I’m Flying.

Peter Pan is a wonderful show for the whole family,” says longtime Pace Academy Theatre Director George Mengert. “It presents production challenges that few other musical theatre plays do—from flying, to crocodiles, to comedic stage combat.”

The school has enlisted the aereography services of Las Vegas-based company Flying by Foy to provide the “fairy dust” that enables the actors to fly. Ingenious stage magic, an enchanting set designed by Technical Director Scott Sargent and lots of happy thoughts will transport audiences to Neverland.

With music direction by Performing Arts teacher Susan Wallace, Peter Pan features a talented cast of 45 Middle and Upper School students, led by junior Caillin Cooke as Peter, senior Sam Downey as Captain Hook, senior Cory Bush as Wendy and senior Alexandra McCorkle as Tiger Lily. Rounding out the principal cast are juniors Cooper Drose, Rebecca Husk and Sam Nail, sophomore Ryan Duvall, eighth-grader Cole McCorkle and seventh-grader Hoke Faser.
