Police Officer Hit By Vehicle At Buckhead School: Report

The officer is being treated at a local hospital; the driver received a ticket, say police.

ATLANTA, GA — A motorist struck an Atlanta police officer who was directing traffic Thursday morning at a Buckhead school, and the officer was taken to a local hospital, according to a media report. The driver stayed at the scene of the accident and was given a ticket, the police said.

The incident occurred at about 7:35 a.m. in the 900 block of West Paces Ferry Road, in front of Pace Academy, a K-12 college preparatory school, the AJC reported. "The officer was attempting to stop several cars on West Paces Ferry Road when one vehicle failed to stop and struck her," a police spokesman said.

The officer was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was in stable condition, the police said. The spokesman said she was being evaluated to determine the extent of her injuries.

The names of the driver and the police officer were not released Thursday morning. The driver received a citation for failure to obey an authorized person directing traffic, the AJC reported.
