Police Shooting Injures Man In Buckhead Domestic Dispute

Georgia authorities say the man approached an officer with a knife, and the officer then shot him.

BUCKHEAD, GA — Authorities say a 59-year-old Lithonia man was injured in a police shooting after approaching an officer with a knife Tuesday in the 3200 block of Lenox Road Northeast.

Atlanta Police responded to a domestic disturbance call around 2:15 p.m., according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

A woman told officers a man she recently met forced his way into her home and left before she called 911, the GBI said.

The woman claimed she saw the man doing drugs and said he began to act erratically, the GBI said.

Furthermore, a maintenance worker reported seeing the man with a crowbar and a knife, the GBI said.

Officers stayed in the area and found the man minutes away from the 3000 block of Lenox Road, where they confronted him on a sidewalk, the GBI said.

The man then approached one of the officers with a knife, the GBI said. The officer shot at the man, injuring him, the GBI said. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, the GBI said.

Charges have not been announced in the case.

Once the GBI's investigation is completed, the case file will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
