Public Meeting for Buckhead Village Road Re-Striping Projects This Week

The project calls for altering lane alignments on West and East Paces Ferry and Pharr roads.

Buckhead Village residents are encouraged to attend an upcoming public information meeting concerning the proposed re-striping of the main east-west arteries in and out of the area.

According to the City of Atlanta, crews will soon be out in force on West Paces Ferry, East Paces Ferry, and Pharr roads changing lane alignments to meet the current demand of motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists in the Buckhead Village area. The city wants to let residents know about the changes, and is holding a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Atlanta International School.

The re-striping project as currently proposed will cut West Paces Ferry down to two lanes in each direction, converting the westbound bike lane into a shared lane, adding an eastbound bike lane, and building a mid-block crossing at Whole Foods. East Paces Ferry will likely be re-striped to the configuration it had before its most recent re-paving.

City planners believe that Pharr Road provides “a more consistent opportunity for a road striping improvements,” and current plans call for converting the thoroughfare into a three-lane road with protected bike lanes and on-street parking in some areas.

“With the recent momentum of development activity in the Village, these streets present opportunities to use the space in their right-of-way differently, making streets that are safer for bicycles and pedestrians and handle traffic more smoothly,” the city said in a statement.
