Scalise Sisters Present Breast Cancer Nonprofit $10,000 Check

Funds were raised during the 2nd Annual Strides for Survivors walk around Chastain Park, organized by the girls as a tribute to their mom.

The Scalise sisters: Samantha, Lauren, and Emilie presented the Board of Directors at the non-profit TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation with a check for $10,000 at their meeting at the end of May.

The funds were raised during the 2nd Annual Strides for Survivors walk around Chastain Park earlier in the year. The event drew some 200 people. This year's event easily surpassed last year's numbers of 150 participants and $6,500 raised.

The three sisters, all students at The Galloway School in Buckhead, organized and executed the event in honor of their mother Stephanie, a breast cancer survivor. She attributes her experience as a patient at TurningPoint, the only non-profit of its kind in the breast cancer space in metro Atlanta, as playing a pivotal role in her recovery and the fact she is cancer free today.

TurningPoint supports breast cancer patients and survivors - women and men of all ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds - by providing a myriad of services, including physical therapy, massage therapy, counseling, exercise classes, and education programs to help them feel better faster and return to the activities they enjoyed prior to a breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatments through chemo, radiation, and surgery. TurningPoint operates out of a clinic on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

"We are inspired and grateful for the remarkable efforts of these exceptional young women," said Rebecca Cowens-Alvarado, the executive director of TurningPoint. "They did an absolutely terrific job organizing and executing the event for the second year in a row as a special tribute to their mother. It speaks volumes about the extraordinary love and closeness displayed by the Scalise family!"
