Six New Year’s Resolutions for You and Your Pet

We know your pet is a part of you, that's why we've put together a short list of resolutions we hope you'll join us in implementing.

It’s December, and depending on when you’re reading this, it means you have less than 31 days to come up with your 2017 New Year's resolutions. The problem with resolutions is we often don’t think them through or give ourselves time to prepare putting them into action. Let’s change that this year. At Deceased Pet Care, we know your pet is a part of you, that’s why we’ve put together a short list of resolutions we hope you’ll join us in implementing this new and exciting year.

Eat Better
There’s nothing like the endless holidays feasts to make us rethink our New Year’s nutritional plans. If your pet has been privy to a few extra scraps or goodies over the holiday, the new year is a chance to start fresh. Make sure to cut out all unnecessary foods, ween them off table scraps, and start measuring their food.

Look for healthy snack alternatives, and consider invest in an organic and well balanced pet food. Your pet and their health will thank you.

Learn Something New
It’s important keep our minds active, especially as we age. In addition to adding a new learning experience to your own life, consider expanding your pet's brain power too. In spite of the old adage, you can teach an old dog new tricks. In fact, you also teach cats a trick or two. There are endless opportunities to learn, like: sit, stay, heel, roll over, speak, shake, play dead, fetch, kiss, stand up, spin, down, and release.

You’ll gain a new hobby, your pet will learn a new skill, and you both will be better bonded for it.

Makeover Time
Few things feel better than getting a brand new haircut and outfit to head out about the town. Your dog appreciates a fresh look too. We’re not talking about a doggie sweater (those they are adorable) we’re talking about some fresh hygiene habits.

Your dog or cat will feel extra special with some intentional grooming like brushing, excess fur removal, tooth and gum care, and paw and nail treatments. Make this extras regular occurrences and your pet's happiness and health will see a drastic improvement.

We Need an Update
Chances are, your pet’s ID and information are the same as the day the little furball tumbled across your threshold. Make sure your pet’s tags and identification are up to date. If you haven’t already, create a folder with all the information you have on your precious pet. Fill it with everything from adoption papers, veterinary paperwork, to immunization sheets. In case of an emergency, you’ll be glad it’s all in one organized spot. An hour now and save you a huge headache later.

Chip In
While we’re on the subject of identification, we highly recommend microchipping your dog or cat. It’s cheaper than ever, non-invasive, and almost guarantees you will be able to track down your pet if they wander off. Speak with your veterinarian to see if microchipping is the right fit for you.

Get Out More
It’s scientifically proven that being outside is good for your mental and physical health. Your pet is no different. If already take your pooch outside for bathroom breaks, consider adding a walk around the block to your routine. Before you know it, it’ll be a healthy habit you can’t do without.

See, that wasn’t so hard. Take our list, look at your schedule and lifestyle, and see what works best for you and your pet. Any improvement is better than none. At Deceased Pet Care, we want the best for you and your pet. Happy New Year from our family to yours!
