Spider-Man Hopefuls Screen Test in Atlanta

Marvel Comics’ latest installment of the Captain America film franchise may be the springboard to stardom for one of six teen actors hoping to land the role of another Marvel legend.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a half dozen actors underwent screen tests on Saturday for the role of Spider-Man, who is scheduled to make an appearance in “Captain America: Civil War” which is currently filming in Atlanta.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the six candidates are Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield. Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, and Charlie Rowe. Holland and Butterfield are the best known candidates, with Butterfield landing the title role in the 2013 “Ender’s Game” film. Holland was seen in the 2012 tsunami film “The Impossible,” which starred Naomi Watts.

According to Butterfield’s Twitter account, his Friday flight (presumably to Atlanta) was delayed, prompting the actor to jokingly declare that he was cursed and would likely soon be stricken by voodoo.
Rowe also tweeted about airport misadventures on Friday, complaining about the price of a banana at Los Angeles International Airport.
After “Civil War,” Marvel plans to partner with Sony Pictures to create a Spider-Man trilogy with the winner of the Atlanta screen tests as the star of the franchise, The Hollywood Reporter says.
Marvel needs to make a decision quickly in order for Spider-Man to appear in the Captain America film; a decision could be announced early this week, The Hollywood Reporter says.
In other Captain America news, Iron Man actor Robert Downey, Jr. has been spotted in and around Buckhead in recent days, taking advantage of the neighborhood’s many restaurants to grab a bite to eat in between scenes.
