Squirrel Breaks Into Buckhead Family's House For the Holidays
A Buckhead family returned home to find a squirrel nestled in its couch after damaging their home while away.
BUCKHEAD, GA — An uninvited furry guest made itself too comfortable in one Buckhead family’s home over the holidays. A squirrel is costing the family thousands of dollars in damages and their insurance company has denied their claims, reports WSB-TV.
Kari Drees told the station that she and her family were out of town when they were notified that the home’s security alarm had gone off.
“We had a friend come check it out and our doors and windows were intact so we just thought it was a software issue,” she said.

When the family returned home they found the numerous damages caused by the squirrel. There were wood chippings from the door spread across the floor and all of the windows were damaged as well. The culprit was found nesting in their couch. Drees said she thinks it came in through their chimney and through the fireplace.
“It seems like he was trying to make his way out of the house,” she said. “So, he started chewing every window, every door just trying to get out.”

Mercury Insurance denied their claim after sending an adjuster to the property citing an exclusion for “rodent” or “vermin” damage.
Drees wants other families to double check their insurance policies in case something like this happens to them.
