Staplehouse; Gun Show and Miller Union Chefs Earn James Beard Nominations

The winners will be announced May 2 in Chicago.

The list of the 2016 James Beard Award nominees has been released, and Atlanta is well represented.

Staplehouse in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward is a finalist for Best New Restaurant.

In the category of Best Chef Southeast, Gunshow's Kevin Gillespie of Gunshow and Steven Satterfield of Miller Union are nominees.

Author Virginia Willis' "Lighten Up, Y’all: Classic Southern Recipes Made Healthy and Wholesome," is a nominee for the foundation's cookbook award with a focus on health.

Satterfield is also up for another award for his cookbook photography in "Root to Leaf: A Southern Chef Cooks Through the Seasons."

Wendell Brock is a nominee in journalism for his article, "Christiane Lauterbach: The Woman Who Ate Atlanta.”

The 2016 James Beard Awards presentation will be held at Lyric Opera of Chicago on Monday, May 2.
