Looking for adventure, but don't want to spend the night away from home? Head to Columbus, Ga. for a real escape less than two hours from Atlanta. Here is what you can expect.
Whitewater. Columbus has some of the best whitewater rafting in the state of Georgia. Best of all, since the rapids are regulated by a dam, you always know when and how swift the the rapids will be, no need to rely on weather.
Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. One of Georgia's most photographed state parks is close to Columbus. Providence Canyon was created by poor farming practices. Hike the rim, or go into the canyon to see the pastel colors and striations.

The Last Hundred Yards. The National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning was recently voted the number one free museum in the US. The Last Hundred Yards exhibit is one of the most moving. Walk through life-sized dioramas of the last hundred yards of some of the toughest battles fought by US soldiers.
