Trout in the Classroom

Students from local high school release trout fingerlings into river

Students from St. Pius X Catholic High School, assisted by members of the Upper Chattahoochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited, recently released trout fingerlings into the Chattahoochee River. The project started approximately three months ago when the school received 300 trout eggs to raise in the classroom.

The Trout in the Classroom program is an environmental education program, sponsored by Georgia Trout Unlimited, in which students raise trout from eggs to fry, monitor tank water quality, engage in stream habitat study, learn to appreciate water resources, begin to foster a conservation ethic, and grow to understand ecosystems.

This effort not only teaches students the value of environmental conservation but also helps local cold-water streams with beneficial aquatic life.
