The Westminster Schools will present the Tony Award-winning musical Titanic on October 22, 23 and 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Kellett Theatre. The performances are free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved in advance.
Titanic follows the story of wide-eyed young crewman Frederick Barrett as he boards the RMS Titanic. Played by Westminster senior Jake Smith, Barrett, a poor stoker from the coal mines of the English midlands, hopes this wondrous “ship of dreams” will lead him and eventually his true love to a better life in America. Like so many others, Barrett will ultimately be forced to choose between fulfilling his dreams and saving the lives of others.
Under the direction of Kate Morgens, Westminster’s director of theatre arts, and student director Leafia Sheraden Cox, the School’s production of Titanic will take theatergoers on a glittering journey of their own. On board the regal luxury liner, the cast sings and dances and falls in and out of love—from the most opulent first class dining salon to the seediest depths of steerage. Though tragic in many ways, this story is also a timely one of triumph, demonstrating that all people are capable of heroism and good will.
