Two rising seniors recently won second place in the 2015 National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) High School Communications Contest.

ATLANTA – Catherine Benedict and Rahil Kamath, rising seniors at The Westminster Schools, recently won second place in the 2015 National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) High School Communications Contest.
The students were recognized in the news story category for their article “G.E.A.R. explores complexities of gender, feminism.” The article was originally published in The Westminster Bi-Line, the School’s weekly newspaper, in November 2014.
The annual NFPW contest, endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and covered by the Dow Jones News Fund Adviser Update, is the only nationwide competition of its kind. The contest offers 22 categories, including news, feature, column writing, photography, videos and graphic design. Students initially compete at the state level, with first-place winners advancing to the national competition.

This year, 144 of the 1195 entries advanced to the national level, and 87 entries—created by 104 students—received national honors.
NFPW, a nationwide organization of women and men with diverse roles in the field of communications, provides the two-tier contest in the belief that it is vital to encourage the next generation to pursue excellence and perhaps careers in the rapidly changing field of journalism and the broader field of communications.
