Westminster Exceeds Goal in $100 Milliion Campaign

School to boost endowment with Teaching for Tomorrow proceeds

The Westminster Schools successfully completed its $100 million Teaching for Tomorrow fund-raising campaign, the Buckhead private school announced Wednesday.

The campaign begun in October 2006 concluded on Jan. 31 with a total of $101.4 million raised, the school said in its announcement.

"There is no doubt that Teaching for Tomorrow succeeded because of its focus on teaching," Bill Clarkson, president of Westminster Schools, said in a statement. "Even in difficult economic times, there was no suggestion that anything short of the goal would be acceptable for our teachers."

Charlie Shaffer, vice president for institutional advancement at the school, said that more than $60 million of the campaign proceeds will be invested in the school's endowment. "All the gains made for teachers through this campaign will be sustained for generations of faculty and students to come, solidifying Westminster's position as a leader in supporting the teaching profession."

The campaign was launched with the intent to recruit and retain the next generation of teachers and to provide faculty and students with the resources to enhance learning and perform to their highest potential, the school said in its statement. The capital campaign was among the largest of its kind for an independent day school in the country.
