Westminster Summer Concert Band To Perform Free Outdoor Concert 6/30

The Westminster Summer Concert Band will perform a free outdoor concert on Thursday, June 30, at 8 p.m. at The Westminster Schools.

ATLANTA — The Westminster Summer Concert Band will perform a free outdoor concert on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at 8:00 p.m. in Stembler Amphitheatre at The Westminster Schools.

Under the direction of conductor and music director Scott Stewart, the ensemble will perform a diverse and engaging program inspired by the popular outdoor wind band concerts championed by John Philip Sousa in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The repertoire will include excerpts from Sullivan’s Pineapple Poll, Chance’s Variations on a Korean Folk Song, Fillmore’s Troopers Tribunal, Frank Ticheli’s Sun Dance, “Symphonic Dances” from Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof, the “March of the Resistance” from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Warren Barker’s New York: 1927, and Alfred Reed’s El Camino Real. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet Stuart Stephenson will join the ensemble as soloist to perform the Arban arrangement of the virtuosic showpiece Carnival of Venice.

This all-volunteer community ensemble, which performs two summer concerts annually, is comprised of current and former members of the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, semi-professional and professional musicians from the Atlanta area, as well as other local instrumentalists.
