• GA Man In Lake Lanier Drowning ID'ed (patch.com) — Buford readers are learning that 71-year-old resident Kim Gregory Battle has been identified as the man who drowned at Lake Lanier near Three Sisters Island on Saturday. Authorities say he slipped into the water while trying to retrieve his hat from his boat, and game wardens later located his body 11 feet underwater using SONAR and a remote-operated vessel.
• Personal files taken in Buford accounting firm data breach (fox5atlanta.com) — Clients of a Buford accounting firm, Forrestall CPAs, are being notified that an intruder accessed and took files from the company's computer network. The firm has involved law enforcement, hired cybersecurity experts, and is offering free identity monitoring, urging anyone who receives a letter to enroll, watch financial accounts closely, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
• Western Carolina is reloaded after turning over almost its entire roster (midmajormadness.com) — A former Buford High School standout, guard Malachi Brown, is set to play a key role for Western Carolina this season after starring at Georgia State. The Catamounts have almost completely rebuilt their roster around returning big man Samuel Dada, adding 10 newcomers and four freshmen as they chase a long-awaited Southern Conference title and NCAA Tournament berth.
