• Leave No Trace picks Lake Lanier for 2026 Spotlight program (thegeorgiasun.com) — Buford will host Leave No Trace staff Sept. 12–13 as part of a Lake Lanier education program, with activities focused on protecting local parks and waterways. Residents can join a free Summer Sendoff at Buford Dam Park on Sept. 12 featuring games and practical tips for keeping the lake clean, swimming safely, and enjoying the outdoors year-round.
   

• Man drowns in Lake Lanier after trying to grab hat that fell off his boat (wsbtv.com) — A 71-year-old Buford man, Kim Gregory Battle, died Saturday after falling from his boat into Lake Lanier near Three Sisters Island while trying to retrieve a lost hat. He never resurfaced, and dive teams later recovered his body in 11 feet of water. Authorities from multiple counties and state game wardens responded to the scene.
   

• Everlove mission team takes gospel to streets, campuses in Washington (christianindex.org) — Members of a Korean congregation based in Buford joined Everlove Baptist Church for a late-July mission trip to Washington, D.C., where students practiced sharing their faith on campuses and city streets. One Buford-connected high schooler even led a Johns Hopkins astrophysicist to embrace Christianity, boosting the team's confidence to continue outreach back in Georgia.
