• Serial shoplifters whose targets included Walmart stores in Hall Co. sentenced (wgtjradio.com) — Two serial shoplifters who hit Walmart stores across eleven states, including a major theft at the Canton location, have been sentenced to 25 and 40 years in prison. Prosecutors say a nearly $15,000 haul from Canton's Walmart helped spark the investigation that tied them to more than $320,000 in stolen merchandise, including incidents in nearby Hall County.
   

• 'Heartbroken:' Family takes steps to declare missing Canton woman dead after Nepal flooding (wsbtv.com) — A Cherokee County family from Canton is moving forward with the painful process of having missing wife, mother, and grandmother Mary Sorensen legally declared dead after catastrophic flooding at the Nepal–China border. Sorensen disappeared while returning from a yoga and meditation trip, and her husband now seeks a Consular Report of Death Abroad as relatives consider honoring her environmental work with a scholarship.
