CANTON, GA — A dog is unaccounted for after a massive blaze erupted Wednesday morning at a North Etowah Drive home in Canton, according to Cherokee County fire officials.
Firefighters responded after receiving the call around 5 a.m. to find heavy fire coming from the home's garage, according to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.
Flames stretched to the main level and attic of the home, fire officials said.
Crews were able to aggressively attack the blaze and hinder it from spreading to the rest of the home, fire officials said.
The residents of the home were able to safely escape; however, a dog is unaccounted for, officials said. No one was injured, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
"CCFES reminds everyone to check your smoke detectors annually and change the batteries. Smoke detectors in the home save lives," fire officials said in a news release.
Hours later, a parked van burst into flames at noon at Key Drive in Canton. Fire officials said flames extended from the van's cab and engine compartment.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, but the cause of the fire was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon.
