News Near Canton: Coffee Business Launches Funding Campaign

A home-based coffee roasting business is looking to the public for support.

Brian Cain and Zachary Willoughby, who are both partners in the Nelson-based company Georgia Bean Roasters, on Wednesday turned to popular crowd-funding website Kickstarter to take their company to the next level.

Georgia Bean Roasters launched in August when Cain and Willoughby "dreamed up the idea of starting a coffee micro-roaster in the north Georgia mountains," according to a press release. 

Their vision is to take the process of roasting coffee outside the walls of a traditional coffee shop.

“Community naturally happens around coffee,” Cain said. “We just want to bring that community together before the end of the life-cycle of coffee. The earliest we can do that is at the roasting process.”

Operating out of Cain’s home in Nelson, the duo comes together several nights a week to roast, grind and bag the coffee to sell at local farmers markets.  

They make it a community event by inviting others in to take part in the entire business process.
