1. 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to honor fallen firefighters (starnewsgaonline.com) — Carrollton residents are invited to join firefighters on September 5 for the inaugural 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Carrollton High School's Grisham Stadium, honoring FDNY firefighters who died in 2001. Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories while carrying a lanyard bearing a fallen firefighter's name and photo. The free event starts at 8 a.m., with on-site registration at 7 a.m.
2. Community First UMC Announces Plans for Maple Street Expansion and Renovation (thecitymenus.com) — A major expansion is coming to Community First United Methodist Church on Maple Street in Carrollton, adding a 7,000-square-foot multi-use worship and community space plus more parking and updated children's areas. Construction is set to begin in spring 2027 and last up to 18 months, with ministries temporarily hosted at Moore's Chapel so services and community programs can continue without interruption.
3. Doorbell camera footage helps convict Carrollton man in attack (fox5atlanta.com) — A Carrollton man has been sentenced to life without parole after a Carroll County jury convicted him of kidnapping with bodily injury and family violence battery in connection with a 2025 domestic attack. Police used doorbell camera footage showing the victim being dragged back into her home as key evidence. Prosecutors also noted his prior felony convictions during sentencing.
4. Oak Mountain Academy dedicates new strength training facility (times-georgian.com) — Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton has dedicated its new Barber Family Strength Training Studio, giving student-athletes an upgraded space to build fitness and lifelong habits. Trustees, staff, students, and Chamber representatives joined for the ribbon-cutting. School leaders say the facility will support all Warriors athletic programs heading into the new school year.
5. Carrollton High Senior Brady Pace Earns Recognition at Boys Nation in D.C. (thecitymenus.com) — A Carrollton High School senior, Brady Pace, has been honored nationally after being elected president pro tempore at American Legion Boys Nation in Washington, D.C. He says the experience sharpened his leadership skills and left him proud to represent Carrollton High. School leaders hope he'll bring those lessons back to benefit classmates and future civic-minded students.
