22 Killed In Accidents During Christmas, New Year's Holiday Travel Period
The Georgia State Patrol has released the number of crashes it investigated during both 78-hour periods.

Georgia state troopers remained busy investigating accidents that killed nearly two dozen motorists over the last two holiday periods of 2016.
During the Christmas holiday travel period, which ran Dec. 23-26, there was a total of 11 fatal crashes with 11 deaths, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Troopers investigated 372 crashes that resulted in 175 injuries and eight fatalities. Cobb County, Henry County and College Park police departments investigated the other three fatal crashes.

For the New Year's travel period that started Dec. 30 and ended Jan. 2, troopers investigated 536 crashes with 223 injuries and eight fatalities. GSP notes there were 10 fatal crashes and 11 deaths during this holiday period.
Troopers investigated seven of these fatal crashes while the DeKalb County Police Department and Bibb County Sheriff’s Office worked the other three fatal crashes, the state agency added.

Compared to 2015, troopers investigated 443 traffic crashes over the Christmas travel period that resulted in 242 injuries and six fatalities, according to state records. For the 2015 New Year's travel time frame, there were 412 crashes and 235 injuries reported.
In addition, troopers investigated seven fatal crashes that resulted in 10 fatalities.
