9/11 Commemorations Take Shape

Two upcoming events aim to honor public servants, emergency responders and military personnel as the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists attacks nears.

While its still unclear if the and will hold a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony this year, two events on the calendar will serve to honor public servants, emergency responders and members of the military.

Here are the details:

Patriotic Halftime

During Friday night's football game at , a patriotic halftime show will recognize local heroes—current and retired military personnel and firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical workers.

Principal Jay Floyd said those who show military ID or wear a uniform will get free admission to the game and should meet on the track under the scoreboard during the second quarter of the game.

band's halftime performance also has a patriotic theme. It is performing it every week this year to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11. The next home game is Sept. 16.

Public Servants Luncheon

Keeping with tradition, the annual Public Servants Luncheon sponsored by local businesses, is set for Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the .

Spearheaded by Parnick Jennings before Sept. 11, 2001, the lunch to honor government employees took on new meaning and expanded following the terrorists attacks.
