Included in the two-year curriculum are personal visits focusing on developmental-centered parenting, parent-child interaction and family well-being.

Another preventative program, First Steps employees makes visits to Cartersville Medical Center to meet with the mothers of newborn babies. The intent is "to give mothers resources and support in order to reduce the stress that comes with having a baby and hopefully prevent any chances of neglect or abuse," said Jennifer Wiggins Matthews of Advocates for Children.
