2 Arrested On Drug Charges In Cartersville

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Two women are facing drug charges after police say they were found unconscious in a vehicle Sunday at a Highway 41 gas station.

An officer responded to the gas station around 7:45 a.m. after receiving a call that the two women were unconscious inside a black pickup truck, Cartersville Police said Monday.

In a police report obtained and reviewed by Patch, the officer said they made contact with the women and asked if they had taken drugs.

Though the women denied having consumed drugs, police said one of the women "had pinpointed eyes and kept nodding off."

The officer then asked the women to get out of the truck, and a search ensued, police said.

Officers found methamphetamine inside a makeup bag near the driver's feet, and a syringe with about 50 cc's of suspected methamphetamine was inside the bag, police said. The driver, who police identified as Melinda Blackmon, acknowledged methamphetamine was inside the syringe, police said.

After both women were cleared by emergency medical workers, police said they both denied being in possession of drugs.

However, Blackmon later acknowledged using the syringe for methamphetamine, police said.

Blackmon and the second woman, 45-year-old Leann Price, were arrested and taken to the Bartow County Jail, police said.

After Price consented to a urine test at the precinct, police said the test yielded a positive result for methamphetamine. Additionally, jail staff found two pills suspected of being Suboxone in her personal property, police said.

Price faced charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule III controlled substance and crossing guard lines with drugs, police said.

Blackmon faced charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects, police said.I

It was not immediately known if the pair had been released from custody Monday.
