Boy Scout Troop 15 Hosts Easy as Pie Chess Tournament in Cartersville

Boy Scout Troop 15 of Cartersville is hosting the Easy as Pie Chess Tournament on Friday, February 22. Held at Trinity United Methodist Church, the tournament starts at 5:30 p.m. and is open to all ages and skill levels. Participation costs $12 per player, and funds will help the troop travel to the Boy Scout of America’s Philmont Ranch in New Mexico for a week-long backpacking experience.

Registration is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by three rounds of chess. The schedule is as follows:

  • Round 1 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Round 2 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Round 3 at 8:30 p.m.

All players will play each round with no eliminations. Players will be matched against opponents with similar abilities and earn one point for a win, one-half a point for a draw and zero points for a loss.

Chess sets, boards and scoring sheets will be provided. United States Chess Federation rules will be followed as closely as possible. Concessions will be available during registration and between rounds.

Winners will receive a Chess pie, a southern specialty dessert. Extra pies will be available for purchase following the awards ceremony.
