Art Competition Winners Named For 11th Congressional District

U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Cassville recognized students from Cartersville, Cherokee, Creekview and Kennesaw Mountain high schools.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- This week, U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk announced the winners of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition for the 11th District.

The announcement was held at Downtown Gallery in Cartersville. Elizabeth Sutton, who attends Kennesaw Mountain High School, won the grand prize for her piece called “Home.”

“The artwork we received this year was truly awe-inspiring and an incredible testament to the creative talent right here in Georgia’s 11th District,” said Rep. Loudermilk. “I am so proud of each and every one of this year’s contestants, and I look forward to seeing the award-winning artwork in the halls of the U.S. Capitol.”

In the 2016 competition, a total of 47 entries were submitted from 11 schools across Georgia's 11th Congressional District. The winning artwork was hand-selected by an independent panel of local artists, and featured as part of a special exhibition at Downtown Gallery in Cartersville.

Elizabeth Sutton received an art scholarship and two airline tickets to Washington D.C. for the official awards ceremony this summer.
