Baby Dies In Cartersville House Fire

A baby died last month after a house fire occurred at a house on Oakdale Drive, according to the Cartersville Fire Department.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Cartersville Fire Department and the state Fire Marshals Office are working together to determine the cause of an early morning house fire that killed a baby last month.

Cartersville Fire Department Units were dispatched at 3:33 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, to a house fire on Oakdale Drive.

Prior to arrival, first responders were notified of two residents trapped inside the home. Fire units arrived within minutes and saw heavy fire and smoke.

A mother and baby were located inside the home and rescued, then turned over to Metro EMS for medical treatment.

The baby was pronounced dead on scene by Metro EMS. The mother, found unresponsive in the home, was transported to a hospital, then to a burn center in Austell for further treatment.
