Bartow Firefighter Dies In Shooting

Terrence Herrington, 24, was found lying in the driveway of a home with a gunshot wound to the head.

ROME, GA -- A Rome resident and firefighter with the Bartow County Fire Department died Sunday from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Floyd County police responded to a call of a man lying in the driveway outside a home in the county.

According to WRGA, Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor said the man, identified as 24-year-old Terrence Herrington, was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The station reports Herrington is the son of Floyd County Emergency Management Director Tim Herrington.

The Rome News-Tribune reports the investigation into Herrington's death remains open, and police say no other details will be released at this time.

The Bartow County Fire Department on its Facebook page said its heart are heavy as "we mourn the loss of one of our own."

"RIP Firefighter Terrance Herrington," the post reads. "Taken from this world way too soon. Please keep his family & BCFD in your prayers."
