Bartow Schools Police Chief Hit By Car While Directing Traffic

Dan Knowles was directing traffic Monday morning at Cass High School when he was side-swiped by a vehicle.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The Bartow County School System's police chief is being check out at an area hospital after he was hit by a vehicle while directing traffic at Cass High School.

Bartow County School System spokesperson Alisha Evans said Dan Knowles was "side-swiped" by a car Monday morning at the intersection of Cass-White Road and Colonel Way.

The Georgia State Patrol added the vehicle driven by 52-year-old Dawn Wright Teer of Cartersville was trying to turn left onto Colonel Way when it struck Knowles.

Evans said Knowles reported knee and side pain, so he was transported to Cartersville Medical Center's emergency room for treatment.

The state agency told Patch the accident remains under investigation "due to conflicting statements."
