BCSO Gets Hundreds Of Tips After Body Found In Landfill

The woman has not been identified, and the Bartow County Sheriff's Office continues to seek information from the public.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The Bartow County Sheriff's Office continues to call on the public to help them identify the woman whose remains were found last week at the county landfill. Investigators have received about 200 tips from callers since the agency established a tip line to collect information related to the grim discovery of the woman's dismembered body.

The remains, which were cut into pieces and placed in bags, were left inside a container for a trash compactor at the site. They were found around 12:30 p.m. Aug. 13 by a Bartow County sanitation worker, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office previously said.

Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said BCSO has also received help from the FBI, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security in its investigation. The sheriff's office also is asking anyone who was at the Cedar Creek collection site at 15 Cedar Creek Road in Cartersville between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday Aug. 11 to call the tip line at 770-387-5100.

Since last week's discovery, numerous rumors have been posted on social media of law enforcement officials finding bodies under similar circumstances in surrounding jurisdictions. While no other bodies have been located in Bartow County, Rogers did say these rumors "unnecessarily cause panic/stress in the public for no reason."

"The BCSO always tries to be as open as possible when it comes to these types of cases, and it would not serve any purpose to hide such information from the public," he added.

The sheriff's office has released two photos of tattoos found on the woman's body. One tattoo, located on her outer right wrist, appears to be the Japanese symbol for bravery, agency said. Another photo of a tattoo is one that was found on her upper chest.
