Man Riding Bike Dies in Fatal Cartersville Accident

A driver has been charged with driving under the influence in an accident that took the life of a man police believe was homeless.

A man riding a bicycle on a major Cartersville highway was killed when he was hit by a vehicle early Friday morning.

Officers with the Cartersville Police Department were called to the scene of the accident along U.S. 41/Joe Frank Harris Parkway at Zena Drive around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 3.

When officers arrived onto the scene, they discovered a male subject who was hit and killed by a car driven by a 22-year-old male.

The victim, who is believed to have been homeless, was riding a bicycle without lights when he was fatally hit and police are working to identify him, said Cartersville police Capt. Mark Camp.

Camp said the driver of the car was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and “other charges.” He noted the name of the motorist hasn’t been released and information on other charges have not been made available.
