Hey, neighbors! It's Saturday in Cartersville and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening locally, including news on:

  • Blood donation numbers "extremely concerning."

Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. Respiratory illnesses sink blood donations: Cases of the flu, RSV and COVID-19 have been overwhelming hospitals and the community blood bank's supply is dangerously low. On Nov. 29, Blood Assurance sent out an urgent call to donors to hopefully boost the diminishing supply across north Georgia. Even after its initial appeal to donors, Blood Assurance is still reporting "extremely concerning" numbers. Blood Assurance's donor center is located at 334 Cherokee Place in the Main Street Shopping Center. Donations can be made Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Most individuals 17 and older (16 with parental consent) who weigh more than 110 pounds can donate blood every eight weeks.(Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
  2. "Unprecedented for a runoff:" Bartow County Elections Supervisor Joseph Kirk said turnout for advance voting in the Senate runoff election hit 1,040 last Saturday. "We are seeing just a great turnout, and I encourage folks to keep coming out," Kirk said. (Cartersville Daily Tribune via Facebook)
  3. Deputy Superintendent to participate in Dances with the Stars: Bartow County School System's Deputy Superintendent Dr. David Chiprany is set to participate in Cartersville's 2022 Dances with the Stars. Dr. Chiprany's participation in this charity event is only natural as he has a passion for helping children succeed. Cartersville Dances with the Stars will benefit the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter and other programs including Backpack Buddies. (Bartow County Schools via Twitter)
