Body Found On I-75 In Bartow County Identified

BREAKING: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is still trying to determine if the man's cause of death was a homicide or accidental.

EMERSON, GA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the identity of the man whose body was found early Wednesday morning along Interstate 75 in Bartow County. The GBI's Crime Lab has confirmed the man to be 24-year-old Mack Owen Griggs of Forest Park.

However, the agency said it's still trying to determine if Griggs' cause of death was a homicide or accidental, spokesperson Nelly Miles said.

The Emerson Police Department requested the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation around 8 a.m. Jan. 10 following the discovery made on the northbound side near mile marker 282.

Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton previously told Patch Griggs had obvious signs of trauma on his body and that it appears he was hit by a vehicle. The autopsy was conducted Thursday at the GBI's Medical Examiner's Office.

Along with the GBI, the Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and Cartersville Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
