Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:
- Cartersville City Schools BOE has amended the 2023 budget to include additional expenses of $185,000. The new Linda P. Benton STEM building utilities for the 2023 year are estimated at $129,000 and cleaning of the building will cost $41,000. The additional $15,000 from the county's reserve funds will be used for an Attestation Audit. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- Emerson Assistant City Manager Todd Heath provided Emerson's Planning and Zoning Commission updates at the last meeting of upcoming projects. "They're working on renovations for it," Heath said about the proposed Varsity restaurant at site of the former Krystal's. Stegall Village, a proposed development on the west side of Hwy 41, has been issued grading permits and "they're putting in the infrastructure." A traffic light at that intersection is also being considered. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- Larry Gardner of Adairsville is a finalist for the new voice of the Atlanta Braves. As the announcer for Adairsville High football games from 2017 to 2019, Gardner has earned heaps of praise for his unique voice. "When the top three finalists are selected, fans will be able to vote Feb. 17 to 20 and contribute to the Braves' winning pick." (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
