Boyfriend Charged After Woman Died In Cartersville Apartment

Cartersville Police found a woman dead at the Morgan Square Apartments on March 19. Her boyfriend has been charged with murder.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A woman was found dead and her boyfriend was charged with her murder, according to Cartersville Police.

On March 19, Cartersville Police responded to a report of an unresponsive female at the Morgan Square Apartments, 290 E. Felton Rd. Officers found Malayca Jones, 27, dead inside the apartment.

Investigators learned Jones’ boyfriend, Alex Bernard Joyner, 30, had been arrested in Gordon County on March 18 after leading the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle. Jones fled authorities, after committing two-armed car jackings in Floyd County, and was armed at the time of his arrest. Subsequently, Floyd County Police investigators located Jones’ vehicle abandoned near the scene of the first carjacking.

On March 23, Joyner was charged in Bartow County for the death of Jones. Joyner was charged with murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and theft by taking motor vehicle.

The Cartersville Police Department worked with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Floyd County Police Department and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department.
