3 Things Businesses Can Learn From Churches

Astute business men and women are looking anywhere for ideas and strategies for surviving the worst economic times since...last week. They should look to the churches {gasp} for help.

Three things that businesses can learn from churches:

1. Stop competing. Churches recognize that we are all inviting people to know and experience God, so we don't focus on our differences or trying to make our church look better than the next church. We just focus on being the best representation of a redeemed community of faith that we can. Be the best you can at what you do and trust that it will be attractive.

2. Have a different goal than getting rich. Yep, i said it. Churches (and pastors) are not doing what they do just to maximize revenue. There is something higher and better motivating them. They have a valuable service/commodity to provide and they believe that they can contribute to a better way of living. Don't do what you do just to make money. Have a better reason for being in business.

3. Be honest. Don't try to project an unrealistic image of perfection or supremacy. Nobody, no product, no business, no church is without shortcoming(s). Churches exist within a culture of grace that acknowledges we don't have it all figured out; we don't have all the answers. Get comfortable with the notion that you aren't the best at everything and sometimes you drop the ball. And yet, you have something of value to people. What do you think about that?
