Free Speech Becoming a Thing of the Past
And it's about as close to an absolute right as it gets.
The First Amendment was designed to keep the government from curtailing your right to say what you want, when you want, and in just about any manner you want when you are criticizing the government. It was designed to protect people from the government, and not people from other people outside of government.
In a recent development, President Obama has signed, H.R. 347 a bill that will give sweeping powers to the Secret Service to decide when protesters can protest. Using ambiguous language that prohibits protests in an area where the Secret Service is doing its job, federal agents can charge you with a felony if they believe that your speech is intolerable for any of many reasons. This is the slipperiest of slopes and appears to be designed for the purpose of muzzling dissent whenever the president, or any other designated official, is making an appearance. Incredibly, this bill passed with almost no dissent.
This obvious erosion of our rights is just another example of the **creep** of government power. Hopefully, this law will be challenged and found to be beyond the pale of what is constitutional or reasonable.
