Burglary Suspect Arrested After Crashing Vehicle Into Ditch

Cartersville, GA -- A burglary suspect was arrested Monday morning after he crashed his vehicle while trying to elude police capture.

Cartesville police on Monday, Jan. 25 arrested Phillip Charles Elrod, 27, and charged him with burglary and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, the agency said.
Officers responded to a burglary in progress call in the 400 block of Waterford Drive. As officers came close to the scene, they made note of a suspicious vehicle leaving the area.

Once officers arrived the victims’ home, they discovered evidence left at the scene by the perpetrators.
Based upon those findings, officers were able to narrow down a suspect and vehicle involved in the incident and released a be-on-the-lookout alert.
Cartersville officers on patrol located the suspected vehicle ”leaving the area at a high rate of speed,” the agency said.
However, as the suspect tried to flee, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed the car into a ditch on Indian Mounds Road.
Officers arrived and arrested Elrod without incident. Throughout the investigation, officer located a second crime scene at a neighboring residence.
Police investigators arrived, process the crime scene and were able to obtain a confession from Elrod, Cartersville police added.
These detectives are also working with surrounding agencies to see if this case is connected to additional crimes. Cartersville police note additional charges are pending.
