Bartow History Museum

<h2>A Journey Through Legendary Stories and Ancient Cultures.</h2>
The Bartow History Museum invites curious young minds to explore legendary tales from around the world during its Myths of Many Lands Summer Camp.
Designed for children ages 8-12, this week-long camp takes participants on a journey through ancient cultures and the stories that shaped them. Campers will discover myths filled with heroes, monsters, and legendary quests while learning about the historical traditions behind these tales.
Throughout the week, campers will explore stories from a variety of cultures – climbing the heights of Mount Olympus, navigating the maze of the Minotaur, and learning about the mighty hammer Mjölnir, famously wielded by the Norse god Thor. Through activities, storytelling, and hands-on learning, campers will connect mythology with the real histories and cultures that inspired these enduring legends.
The cost is $115 per camper, and space is limited. Early registration is encouraged.

This isn’t your average classroom; it’s a hands-on STEM escape designed to turn curious kids into real scientists during our one-week Explorer Camps. With a different theme to explore each week, every session offers a brand-new discovery.&nbsp;&nbsp;Roll up your sleeves and sharpen your observation skills as you practice crime scene investigation&nbsp;one week, or master the art of collaboration by creating your own museum exhibit&nbsp;the next. From cracking the code to using creativity to engineer solutions to wild challenges, our junior scientists will tackle different adventures all&nbsp;summer&nbsp;long.

<h2>Uncovering the Legacy of M.W.H. “Alphabet” Collins and Georgia’s Agricultural Revolution</h2>
The Bartow History Museum invites the public to a special evening lecture.&nbsp;Mary Norton will present on the life and work of M.W.H. “Alphabet” Collins, including the founding of the Georgia Institute of Genetics and the history of the former Georgia Institute of Genetics seed processing barn. Once located at the center of groundbreaking cotton research, the now-abandoned barn served as a key site in Collins’ pioneering work in agricultural genetics.
During the lecture, attendees will learn about Collins’ lasting impact on Georgia’s cotton economy from 1916 through the 1970s and how his work continues to influence agriculture in Georgia today. Norton will also explore why Collins became known as one of Georgia’s best-kept historical secrets and discuss the significance of the Georgia Institute of Genetics to Bartow County’s history and future. Through the story of Alphabet Collins, guests will gain a deeper understanding of the people, research, and innovations that helped shape modern agriculture in Georgia.
Admission is free for museum members and $9 for non-members.
<h3>About the Speaker</h3>
Mary Norton has been an active and dedicated member of the Etowah Valley Historical Society since 1972. Alongside Dr. Bob Norton, she has provided decades of leadership, conducted in-depth historical research, and delivered engaging presentations and events at Valley View. Her commitment to preserving and sharing local history has earned her recognition, including the EVHS Lifetime Achievement Award.
