Cartersville Assistant Basketball Coach Passes Away

Ed Riddle died last week from complications stemming from heart surgery.

Cartersville, GA -- The sports community in and around Cartersville is mourning the loss of an assistant basketball coach.

Kennesaw resident Edward “Ed” Lee Riddle, who was an assistant coach of the Cartersville High School boys basketball team, died on Friday, Dec. 18.

He suffered complications stemming from heart surgery, The Daily Tribune News reports.

Riddle, 66, has coached at Woodland, Cass, Marietta high schools as well as in Florida, accoridng to the Cartersville Canes Athletics website.

Riddle was ”an extremely enthusiastic coach who is an expert at motivating students to perform at their highest level of performance,” the website added, noting Riddle’s main responsibilities were serving as defensive coordinator and academic advisor to the students.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at First Baptist Church of Woodstock. Riddle was born in Orlando, Florida, and attended Tennessee Temple University. He moved to Georgia in 1984 and along with coaching, has taught algebra, health and driver’s education, his obituary states.

He is survived by wife Aurora; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly (Scott) Riddle Collins; son and daughter-in-law, David and Melissa Riddle; son, Chad Edward Riddle; grandchildren, C.J. Collins, Cody Collins, McKenna Riddle and Macauly Riddle; brother, Virgil Riddle; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
