Cartersville Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

The suspect was tracked down less than two hours after police say he robbed Renasant Bank on Old Mill Road.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A Cartersville bank robbery suspect was arrested in a neighboring county within hours of his alleged crime.

That's according to the Cartersville Police Department, whose officers were dispatched around 12:11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 to an robbery at Renasant Bank located at 420 Old Mill Road.

The suspect, identified as Joel Michael Bennett, allegedly entered the bank and presented a note to the teller demanding money, Cartersville police spokesperson Lt. Mike Bettikofer said.

Bettikofer added Bennett fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. Detectives with the department's Criminal Investigations Unit were able to identify and locate Bennett in Paulding County, and the suspect was arrested within a two-hour window.

Bennett has been transported to the Bartow County Jail on an armed robbery charge, Bettikofer added.
